Texas Roadhouse Hosts Fundraiser for Mountain Hope

TXRHNightSEVIERVILLE — Wouldn’t it be wonderful to donate money to a good cause while eating a luscious steak or tasty ribs?

Diners at the Texas Roadhouse in Governor’s Crossing will do just that on Sept. 20. The restaurant is offering a Dine to Donate night that will benefit the non-profit Mountain Hope Good Shepherd Clinic.

Ten percent of eligible restaurant sales between 5 and 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 20 will go as a donation to Mountain Hope. For their meal to be eligible, guests must present a Dine to Donate flyer to their server while ordering. Flyers are available and can be printed off at Mountain Hope’s web site, www.mountainhope.org, or at the Clinic’s Facebook page. They are also available at the front desk of the Clinic at 312 Prince Street in Sevierville.

The Clinic provides quality medical and dental care at reasonable cost to Sevier County residents and employees who have no health insurance. “We are delighted that the Texas Roadhouse is supporting our efforts with this special evening,” said Clinic Fund Development Director Ashley Burnette. “Because we don’t charge our patients the full amount of what it costs us to treat them, we rely on businesses to help us bridge the gap. We applaud Texas Roadhouse’s community spirit.”

The Clinic has been serving the county’s uninsured since 1999, and currently has more than 21,000 people on its active roll.

Now is the perfect time to schedule an activity that helps others while dovetailing perfectly with your Christmas shopping.

Mountain Hope Good Shepherd Clinic is looking for volunteers to wrap gifts for a couple of hours starting on Black Friday (November 25) and continuing every day through Christmas Eve. Proceeds will benefit the non-profit clinic, which serves Sevier County residents and employees with no health insurance.

The location Ole Smoky Barn, 131 The Island Drive in Pigeon Forge. Volunteers are asked to sign in for two-hour shifts (or longer) any time between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m.

“This is a great opportunity to turn a Christmas shopping outing into something more,” said Ashley Burnette, director of fund development for Mountain Hope. “Just think — you can shop in Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge, then wrap gifts for a couple of hours to benefit others. You could even wrap the gifts you just bought.”

What’s more, you can shop with a friend and then both of you can have fun wrapping together. Two volunteers at a time are needed at each location.

There’s another way you can help the project. You can donate Christmas wrapping paper, tape, scissors, bows, and ribbon by taking it to the Clinic at 312 Prince Street in Sevierville.

Mountain Hope Thanks Ober Gatlinburg and Gatlinburg Sky Lift for Sevier County Days Donations

Oberttram-510x343 hat-couple-on-lift-2-510x383There’s a longtime local tradition of tourism attractions offering Sevier County Days to local residents at reduced prices. It’s an opportunity for Sevier Countians to enjoy the attractions that normally cater mainly to tourists.

Recently two Gatlinburg businesses, Ober Gatlinburg and the Skylift, took Sevier County days a step farther by donating the proceeds to Mountain Hope Good Shepherd Clinic. In this way, local folks benefitted twice, both by having fun and by supporting their neighbors, the Clinic’s patients.

We are grateful that management at the Skylift and Ober generously decided to support the non-profit Clinic in this way. Providing quality medical and dental care to local citizens with no health insurance does not come cheap. We charge our patients an affordable fee, but the actual cost to us for each patient visit is much more than we recoup from patients. To make up the difference, we depend on support from local businesses as well as grants and private donations. Fundraisers such as the two Sevier County Days events are most welcome.

What Does Your Donation Buy?

Donate to Mountain Hope Good Shepherd CliniWhen you make a donation to Mountain Hope Good Shepherd Clinic, your money goes a long way. In fact, it goes a lot farther than what you spend on your own health care.

Here’s what we charge our patients. Some of them can’t afford even these prices:

Thirty dollars buys one office visit, a tooth extraction, or baseline blood work. (One of our staff members noted that her insurance billed $661 for the same blood work.)

An echocardiogram (EKG) costs $20 at the Clinic.

If we have them in stock, we charge $5 for common medications such as routine antibiotics.

A dental filling is $60, and teeth cleaning $50.

These low prices are the result of careful management. Many of our medical and dental providers are volunteers (though all are skilled and experienced).

Nevertheless, the actual cost of each visit is much more than the prices we charge. Every time a patient walks in, the cost to us is $94.42, not the $30 we charge. We have to make up that $64.42 deficit through fund raising, grants — and, of course, donations.

Sevier, Cocke, Jefferson County Days at Ober Gatlinburg

Ober Gatlinburg Sevier County DaysGatlinburg, TN – Ober Gatlinburg will offer Sevier, Cocke and Jefferson County Days from Saturday, June 4th through Friday, June 10th with 100% of the proceeds to benefit the Mountain Hope Good Shepherd Clinic.

A $3 donation (per person) can be exchanged for an Attraction Wristband that includes Ober Gatlinburg’s Aerial Tram, Alpine Slide, Ice Rink, Wildlife Encounter, Scenic Chairlift, Water Raft Rides, Carousel, Amaze’n Maze, Mini-Golf and Chair Swing!

Qualifying Sevier, Cocke or Jefferson County residents or Sevier County Employees, may bring one guest or their spouse & dependent children. Eligible participants must be over the age of 16, possess a valid Sevier, Cocke, or Jefferson County ID or recent pay stub from a Sevier County business and valid ID. The Mountain Hope Good Shepherd Clinic is located in Downtown Sevierville and us the only health care ministry in Sevier County that exclusively treats the medically uninsured.  Since the population of Sevier County is largely based on tourism and many jobs are seasonal in nature many citizens are without medical insurance. Mountain Hope was founded to provide a medical home to those in need of care. The clinic provides primary medical care, limited dental care, and helps patients apply for pharmaceutical assistance. They also make referrals to outside medical specialists for conditions that cannot be treated on site.
