Cold weather did not deter a warm-hearted crowd who saw a\nnew era in the making Nov. 8 for Sevier County\u2019s medically underserved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At the groundbreaking for the expansion of Mountain Hope\nGood Shepherd Clinic\u2019s Prince Street building Nov. 8, there was plenty of warmth\nabout the Clinic\u2019s past work and future prospects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Expanding the Clinic will mean more patient consulting\nrooms, space for special programs and more patients served, in addition to the\n26,000-plus people who have already come through the doors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Everyone who turned up deserves our thanks for braving the\ncold, especially the speakers. They included Robin Reagan, the Clinic\u2019s board\nchair; Mary Vance, former executive director; current Executive Director\nDeborah Murph, and Daryl Roberts of\nTennessee State Bank, who announced a $50,000 donation from the bank toward the\nbuilding extension;<\/p>\n\n\n\n
State Reps. Andy Farmer and Dale Carr read from a state\nresolution praising the Clinic\u2019s 20 years of service. Dr. Jack Parton of Sevier\nCounty School System and Assistant County Mayor Bryan McCarter also spoke in\nsupport of the extension. Scotty Henry of \nRichardson\u2019s Cove Baptist Church and the Rev. Don Grady, formerly of\nSevierville Presbyterian Church, gave the opening and closing prayers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The crowd then retired indoors where Collier Restaurant\nGroup and Cici\u2019s Pizza provided refreshments. Sevier County Utility District\ndonated water and loaned tents; Sevier County Library System loaned a podium\nand allowed overflow parking behind the library. Woods Hippensteal framed the\ntwo resolutions, one for the Clinic and one for co-founder Sue Ellen Riddle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We appreciate our former and present volunteers and other\nwell-wishers who were undeterred by the cold, as well as Seagle Landscaping\nSupplies, Susan Austin and her students from East Tennessee State University,\nand four Seymour High School students who prior to the ceremony ensured that\nthe grounds looked their best.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The main beneficiaries of the building expansion will be\nMountain Hope\u2019s patients, none of whom have health insurance. Quality medical\nand dental care would be unaffordable to thousands of low-income Sevier County\nresidents and workers were it not for the non-profit Mountain Hope.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
